Works well, but non-intuitive Review by Jack Taylor

Before I get into the technical review, I would like mention the good level of service offered by CarPhone Warehouse and their mobile fitting team. The local guy had to come out twice (included in price) to get the system up and running and installed correctly.

As for the system - this is a bit of a difficult one. My setup is a Passat 06', Nokia E72, and Ipod Classic. If the equipment is not connected in the right order, not all the things work. E.g. if i connect the phone 1st, then the dongle for the ipod wont. As i see it, if the phone is connected first, then the system thinks my mp3 on the phone is the 'music player' and wont allow another to connect. To overcome this, when i turn the car on i have to turn the dongle on first before turning on the bluetooth on my phone.

Auto-connecting by leaving the bluetooth on is a no-go, as i wont be able to listen to music. Big negative. I only found this out via trial-and-error, so was thinking id made a big mistake buying this.

If im just playing music via ipod dongle it is good and clear - much better than old fm transmitter. No break-up in signal for an iPod classic (read online reviews about issues with playing music from iPhone!). However, this drains a fully charged ipod in about 4-5 hours. I understand you can get a charging i-line dongle, however this is extra money! Phone calls are clear and pause the music during call.

if your car has a premium aftermarket or standard music system, you may wish to avoid this system. It uses a separate amplifier (included) to play back music/phone. This bypasses the normal amplifier, so be warned! In my Passatt the sound is pretty normal, but bass is perhaps a bit weak.

So in summary, this can be a massively frustrating system, but, providing it is installed correctly, does work. It takes time to work it out, so if you want hastle free and already have an 'aux in' (my passatt didnt) for connecting Mp3/Ipod, dont buy this.

To note: the mobile technician didnt rate the system.

I bought this to listen to podcasts/music on my way to work on the motorway (Honda Civic). Switching between radio, iPhone music and the phone can be fiddely, but is functioning with patience. Phoning is very good. The real problem I have, is that the volume of the podcasts can be too low, certainly lower than the radio, so much so that I have given up listening to it, which defeats the purpose. I have not tried the voice controle.

Pleased with the Ipod functionality but a little disappointed with the audio quality on the handsfree. Not bad though for the price.
